Michelle Nettleton BA, B. Ed. watercolorist, author, illustrator and teacher holds a Bachelor of (Visual) Arts from University of Windsor and a Bachelor of Education from Redeemer University. Her career as an artist and a teacher has allowed her to walk down many paths. As the manager of Tandy Leather in Windsor she created and painted animal portraits which were hand-carved on leather. She also instructed immerging artists in the art of leather tooling. While employed as a production supervisor at The Crafter’s Market, she sculpted and painted figurines. She also taught and mentored the employed figurine makers. During her career she was retained as an art instructor for the Burlington Art Centre, the Artist Gallery, the Halton District School Board and Meadow Green Academy. For many years, as a private enterprise, she taught cartooning to both children and adults. As an illustrator, she wrote and illustrated for 2 newspapers as well as a magazine entitled Story Friends. JOY, written and illustrated by Nettleton, is her first self-published book. She also illustrated a children's book called The Stone by Diane Slagter. Possessing a passion for painting, she has created a body of work that includes several mediums: oils, acrylic and watercolours. Her commission paintings have found homes in Canada, the United States, Mexico and several other countries. Presently, Nettleton is focused on the intricacies of watercolour painting. Her studio, Michelle Nettleton Fine Art, is in the quaint town of Burlington, Ontario, Canada near the beautiful shores of Lake Ontario.
Artist’s Statement
I feel our lives are a gift from above, a sort of tapestry made of many individual moments. My greatest joy is to capture those precious moments. By doing so, one can hold a special moment close to the heart, forever.
